What it is

What is Partial Hospitalization Program?

Partial Hospitalization is the highest level of outpatient care — ASAM Level 2.5. Most clients attend 5 to 6 days a week for full-day clinical programming (20–30 hours weekly), then return home or to sober living each evening.

PHP is the right level of care when you need the structure and intensity of inpatient treatment but don't require 24-hour medical or residential supervision. Many clients step down from inpatient or detox into PHP, then continue to IOP and outpatient as they progress.

Who it's for

Is this the right level of care?

  • Step-down from inpatient, residential, or medical detox
  • Step-up from IOP for clients who need more intensive care
  • Co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions requiring full-day clinical structure
  • Clients with stable housing who don't require 24-hour supervision
  • Severe depression, anxiety, or trauma symptoms not responsive to lower levels of care
